Long, long ago, Tengri, the creator of all things, created the sun, and then the world and living beings. Later, to maintain order, he created the first god, Erlik, Tengri’s first son. Erlik served the world for a long time. However, he soon desired more. Erlik created his own beings from fire and rebelled against his father. Erlik and his armies ravaged the world to weaken Tengri’s power. In response, Tengri created his second son, Kayra, to restore order and sent Erlik to the underworld along with his army. Thus, Erlik could never reach the world again. Later, Tengri granted Kayra khan a special power called "free will" to maintain order on Earth. Kayra bestowed this special power upon humans, ensuring they upheld order. But Erlik, determined to make humans his servants, crafted a cursed medallion in the underworld and gave it to humans. In response, a few tribes loyal to Tengri united under the great Khan Oghuz, to whom Kayra gifted an unbreakable sword. At the foothills of Tengri Mountain, the largest peak in Altai, a great battle began between Oghuz’s armies and Erlik’s forces. As Erlik’s armies were on the verge of victory, Oghuz Khan plunged his sword into the heart of a commander carrying Erlik’s medallion, turning Erlik’s army to stone in an instant. With the curse lifted, humanity declared ultimate victory, but the medallion was lost. For a long time, peace reigned over these steppe lands. Kayra left the world and withdrew to his palace in the sun. However, the medallion was forgotten among the petrified corpses.

After a long war, peace reigned in the world. However, greed and selfishness did not end disputes among people. The Khanate established by Oghuz split into four khanates and many independent tribes three centuries later. The Southeastern Khanate lived in poverty, having less fertile lands compared to the others. The ruler of these lands, a wise man named Udar Khan, sought to revive his country by reclaiming its former territories but lacked the power to do so. Unable to bear the poverty of his people and land, he embarked on a journey to Tengri Mountain to seek Tengri’s help. Passing through ancient lands, Udar heard legends about the cursed medallion of Erlik’s commander’s heart. Desiring to obtain this talisman, he set out to find it. After days of searching in the cursed valley, he was about to lose hope when he noticed a peculiar-looking rock. Upon closer inspection, he realized it wasn’t a rock but an old helmet blended with the hard soil. Udar ordered his soldiers to dig carefully. They unearthed the petrified body of Erlik’s infamous commander. The rumors were true; the medallion was right beside the commander’s petrified heart. Udar took the talisman and placed it around his neck. As soon as he wore it, the medallion trembled, pierced his chest, and entered his heart. The Earth began to quake. Udar’s body levitated, and his eyes and skin changed color. He was no longer human, for the legend also contained a prophecy: When the medallion entered someone’s heart, that person would awaken Erlik’s power and turn into one of Erlik’s fiery creatures, commanding Erlik’s army. The awakening of Erlik’s power would bring an age of darkness to the world. But another prophecy existed: On the night the commander returned, a child would be born, descended from Oghuz, possessing the power of the Gray Wolf. This child, destined to find Oghuz’s lost sword and restore balance to the world, would be known as the Gray Wolf’s Chosen.

Knowing the prophecy, Udar realized that Ataman, the leader of an independent tribe and the last of Oghuz’s lineage, was the one mentioned. Ataman was a great warrior and the chief of the strongest independent tribe. His wife’s approaching childbirth was known across the lands. Believing he could easily end the prophecy, Udar attacked the tribe. During a night raid, Ataman fought valiantly in an unwinnable battle but could not stand against the talisman’s power and perished along with his tribe. Udar entered Ataman’s tent, where the newborn child was. Subdued by the talisman’s power, Udar decided to raise the child as a servant rather than kill him. Leaving the tribe after witnessing Ataman’s wife Almila dying from childbirth, he thought the prophecy was ended. However, the tribe’s sole survivor was Ataman’s brother-in-law, Erendiz, who found Almila in her final moments. Almila, using her last strength, pointed to her abdomen and whispered her final words: “Save him.”

Erendiz noticed movement in Almila’s belly—it was twins. Using his dagger, he delivered the second child, who was alive. Wrapping the baby in cloth, Erendiz named him Adar and fled to the distant Southwestern Khanate lands. There, the peaceful and just ruler Turum Khan took Adar in. Presenting the baby as one of his twin sons, the truth about Oghuz’s lineage was hidden.

Under the looming shadow of Erlik’s curse, the Altai steppes grew increasingly desolate. Yet within the secure boundaries of the Southwestern Khanate, Adar lived a comfortable life at the age of 20. He hunted with his father Basut daily, trained with the warriors of the tribe in swordsmanship and archery, and was loved by his adoptive parents Basut and Gensu. However, Adar was unaware of his true heritage. Despite his peaceful life, he began to feel a growing unease as he witnessed the desolation caused by Erlik’s curse spreading across the steppe lands.

During a hunt, Adar displayed an unusual ability that caught Basut’s attention: for a brief moment, Adar’s eyes glowed with a bright blue light, and a wolf’s howl echoed from nowhere. This occurrence unsettled Basut. Without knowing Adar’s true identity, Basut sensed a supernatural destiny tied to him. When Gensu learned of this incident, she insisted that Adar should continue living a happy life away from the burdens of prophecy, and they decided to keep their secrets.

That night, Adar dreamed of a massive gray wolf calling to him. The wolf said, “Kayra’s sword awaits you,” and directed him to an ancient temple deep within the Altai Mountains. Adar awoke, unable to shake the dream’s vividness and struggled to understand its significance.

When Adar shared his dream with Basut, his father dismissed it as meaningless. However, a message from Turum Khan changed everything. Turum Khan commanded Adar to prepare for an imminent attack from the Southeastern Khanate, sending him on his first mission beyond the tribe’s borders. Before leaving, Basut handed Adar a necklace Gensu had hidden, a symbol carried by descendants of Oghuz. Though Adar didn’t fully grasp its meaning, he felt a deep sense of belonging.

Adar set out on his journey, unaware of the trials and revelations awaiting him. Along the way, he encountered Yelda, a bold and intelligent warrior sent by Turum Khan to secretly observe and aid him. Initially mistrusting each other, their bond strengthened as they faced shared challenges. Together, they stumbled upon an abandoned village, which turned out to be a trap created by Erlik’s cursed magic. Here, Adar confronted a mystical entity known as the Mirror Djinn, which reflected his darkest fears and regrets. Reliving the massacre of his tribe, Adar nearly succumbed to despair but managed to break the illusion with Yelda’s support. This encounter marked the beginning of his acceptance of his past and his destiny.

Guided by the elderly sage Balamir, Adar and Yelda embarked on a quest to locate Kayra’s sword. Along their journey, they faced resurrected creatures from Erlik’s army, summoned by Udar’s dark power. Adar’s latent abilities began to manifest more strongly, though he struggled to control them. During one intense battle, his eyes glowed with fiery blue light, and a wolf’s howl resonated across the battlefield, causing his foes to falter. However, the power overwhelmed him, leaving him unconscious. Balamir warned that mastering this power was essential to fulfill his role as the Gray Wolf’s Chosen.

Reaching the Altai Mountains, Adar and Yelda met Sarkan, a reclusive blacksmith and former warrior who once served Oghuz’s lineage. Sarkan revealed the location of Kayra’s sword but demanded that Adar prove his worth through a series of grueling tests. These trials honed Adar’s physical and mental strength, as well as his ability to control the Gray Wolf’s power. Sarkan eventually deemed Adar worthy and directed him to the Flaming Cave Temple at the mountain’s summit.

Inside the temple, Adar faced a final trial to claim Kayra’s sword. He confronted his deepest fears and the memories of his lost family, emerging victorious with a newfound resolve. As he grasped the sword, it shimmered with an otherworldly glow, signifying its acceptance of Adar as its wielder.

With the sword in hand, Adar and Yelda descended the mountain, only to encounter Karaçay, a fierce commander from Erlik’s army wielding a fiery blade. Karaçay’s mission was to destroy Kayra’s sword and eliminate Adar. In a climactic duel, Adar unlocked the full potential of the Gray Wolf’s power, defeating Karaçay but not before learning a chilling truth: Erlik’s army was awakening, and Udar’s strength continued to grow.

Realizing the urgency of their mission, Adar and Yelda sought to unite the scattered tribes and khanates to stand against Erlik’s impending onslaught. This effort was fraught with challenges, as old rivalries and mistrust hindered their progress. Through diplomacy and feats of bravery, Adar gradually gained the allegiance of key leaders, including the formidable Kurtçu Alp and his tribe, the Wolf’s Thunder.

While rallying the tribes, Adar encountered Tarkan, who had been raised as Udar’s most trusted commander. During their confrontation, the medallion around Adar’s neck triggered memories buried deep within Tarkan. Conflicted and torn, Tarkan faced a choice: remain loyal to Udar or embrace his true lineage. A fierce battle ensued, but Adar spared Tarkan’s life, planting the seeds of doubt in his heart. Tarkan began to question Udar’s intentions and his own place in the unfolding prophecy.

As the tribes united, Udar unleashed his most dangerous forces, including shadow warriors who sowed chaos and fear. Adar, Yelda, and their allies faced overwhelming odds, and divisions among the tribes threatened to shatter their fragile alliance. However, Tarkan’s unexpected defection to Adar’s side turned the tide. Using his knowledge of Udar’s strategies, Tarkan helped the tribes secure key victories, though suspicion lingered among their ranks.

At the foothills of Tengri Mountain, the united forces of the steppe faced Erlik’s dark army in a battle that would determine the fate of the world. Adar, wielding Kayra’s sword, led the charge alongside Yelda and their allies. During the chaos, Adar discovered that Tarkan, Udar’s trusted commander, was in fact his twin brother, taken and corrupted by Udar’s influence.

In a pivotal confrontation, Tarkan’s loyalty wavered as Adar’s presence stirred buried memories. Ultimately, Tarkan chose to aid Adar, turning against Udar. Together, the brothers confronted Udar, who had become a monstrous embodiment of Erlik’s power. In a final act of sacrifice, Tarkan channeled his life force through Kayra’s sword, enabling Adar to strike the decisive blow.

Udar was defeated, and Erlik’s army crumbled, but the victory came at a heavy cost. Tarkan’s sacrifice united the steppe peoples, bringing peace and restoring balance to the land. Adar returned Kayra’s sword to its resting place in Tengri’s temple, vowing to protect the legacy of the Gray Wolf for future generations.

Though Erlik’s power was vanquished, the story of the Gray Wolf’s Chosen became a legend passed down through the ages. The steppe flourished under the unity forged by Adar’s leadership, but the memory of the darkness served as a reminder of the eternal struggle between light and shadow.
